Treatment Methods

Dr. Veisman’s practice provides a variety of surgical services. We pride ourselves on the fact that we are very conservative in our treatment recommendations and limit surgery to the areas where it is absolutely necessary.

After reviewing your medical and dental history, Dr. Veisman will examine your gums, teeth and mouth. After gathering the information, he will discuss your condition with you and suggest the most helpful treatment for your dental health.

Many times, the early stages of periodontal disease are best treated with non-surgical periodontal therapy. Even in severe cases, non-surgical periodontal therapy often precedes surgical therapy. This is done to improve the overall tissue quality prior to surgery and also to help limit the areas requiring surgery.

How much will treatment cost?

The cost of periodontal treatment varies depending upon your needs. After Dr. Veisman has examined you determined the appropriate treatment, he will provide you with an estimate of the cost. If you are covered by dental insurance, your carrier may cover some or all of your costs. Generally, insurance carriers will not compensate you for dental implants. As always, Dr. Veisman and his staff will be happy to work with you and your insurance company to secure maximum benefits.

As you consider this health investment, keep in mind that treating gum disease is less costly and better for your health-than replacing teeth lost to untreated gum disease.

Maintenance: Keeping Your Gums Healthy for a Lifetime

Once Dr. Veisman has diagnosed and treated your periodontal disease, periodontal maintenance, or Supportive Periodontal Therapy (SPT), will enable you to take control of the disease and increase your chances of keeping your teeth as they are.

SPT will protect the foundation for good oral health which includes the gums, bone and roots of teeth. This treatment may be more frequent than the traditional 6 month recalls you have become accustomed to with your dentist. SPT may require that you see your dentist and Dr. Veisman on an alternating 3 month schedule. This means that every 3 months, you will be seen by your dentist or Dr. Veisman to protect your oral health and investment. Your recall protocol will be assessed by Dr. Veisman and your dentist to suit your individual periodontal needs.

What is included in a SPT visit?

  • Discussion of changes to health history
  • Oral examination looking for any abnormal changes
  • Measuring depths of pockets
  • Cleaning teeth to remove bacterial plaque and tartar
  • Taking any necessary x-rays to evaluate bone levels around teeth
  • Examining teeth for decay
  • Checking the way your teeth fit together (occlusion)
  • Applying or prescribing medications to reduce tooth sensitivity

During your visit, your dentist or Dr. Veisman, will review your home hygiene routine and both may suggest changes to the protocol. If periodontal disease recurs, then additional treatment may be recommended.

Periodontal maintenance visits will protect your investment and keep your dental costs down by preventing future problems.

Gum disease is more than just gums. A commitment to SPT is your commitment to better overall health!
